CHAPTER 1
The prophesied counsel of the Self-existent to Israel [descendants of Jacob – the northern and southern kingdoms] through Malachi
“I [the Self-existent - the Holy Spirit], the Oracle of the Self-existent, have shown that I
love you, yet you say, ‘How have you shown that You love us?’ Was not Esau, Jacob’s twin brother? Yet I loved Jacob
and hated Esau; I laid his country – his heritage – waste for the dragons
to inhabit
.
Edom [the country of the descendants of Esau, Jacob’s twin brother] may be saying, ‘Although we have been demolished, we will build the desolate places,’ they shall build, but I [the Self-existent - the Holy Spirit] will throw down; they shall call them, ‘A territory of evildoers’ and ‘people against whom the Self-existent always has indignation.’
You shall witness it and say, ‘Everyone in Israel, magnify the Self-existent.’
‘A son respects his father and a servant, his master,’ the Self-existent, the God of armies, asks, ‘If I
am
a Father, where is My respect? Also, if I
am
a Sovereign Master, where is My fear? – you priests who despise My
Name [Emissary] - the Self-existent, the Holy Spirit - and are asking: How have we despised Your Name [Emissary]?
You offer polluted bread on My altar, yet you ask: How have we polluted it? You polluted
it
in that you despise the table of the Self-existent [the Holy Spirit].
If you offer the blind for sacrifice, is it not evil? If you offer the lame and the sick, is it not evil? Offer it now to your governor; will he be pleased with you or accept you?’
Now, please, beg God [the Self-existent] that He will be gracious to you - this is a thing that you can
easily
do - will He regard you? (This is a declaration of the Self-existent, the God of armies.)
Hear also, what the Self-existent, the God of armies, says
, ‘Who among you locks himself in without a reason? You do not offer sacrifice to Me without a reason either!’ The Self-existent says, ‘I don’t need you, I will not accept offering from you either.
From sunrise to sunset, My Name [Emissary] - the Self-existent, the Holy Spirit - shall be great among foreign nationals: For that, incense and pure offerings shall be offered to
Him
in every place. (This is the declaration of the Self-existent, the God of armies.)
However, you have hurt Him in saying: The table of the Self-existent has been desecrated; the fruit and the meat there are not to be respected.
You also say: What sort of trouble is this? - and you disrespect it (this is the declaration of the Self-existent), bringing the torn, the lame and the sick. Is that what you call offering? Should He accept this from you? (This is the declaration of the Self-existent, the God of armies.)
Cursed be the deceiver who has in his flock a male, and vows, and sacrifices a useless thing to the Self-existent [the Holy Spirit] because I, the Self-existent, the God of armies, am a great King and My Name [Emissary] - the Self-existent, the Holy Spirit - is dreadful among foreign nationals.
