So, all the generations from Abraham to David were fourteen generations; from David until the exile to Babylon, fourteen generations; and from the exile to Babylon until Jesus the Anointed, fourteen generations.

18

The birth of Jesus the Anointed came about this way: After His mother, Mary, had been engaged to Joseph, it was discovered before they came together that she was pregnant through holy spirit [breath] – the breath of the Self-existent, the Holy Spirit.

19

Her husband, Joseph, being upright and not wanting to disgrace her publicly, contemplated divorcing her secretly,

20

but while he ruminated on these things, a celestial-messenger of the Self-existent appeared to him in a dream, saying, “Joseph, son of David, don’t be afraid to take Mary as your wife; what has been conceived in her is through the power - breath - of leftBracket symbol the Self-existent rightBracket symbol , the Holy Spirit.

21

She will give birth to a Son. Name Him JESUS: He will save His people from their sins.

22

All these took place to fulfill what was spoken by handthe Self-existent [the Holy Spirit] through the prophet:

23

A virgin will become pregnant and give birth to a Son and He will be named “God is with us” [Hebrew – Emmanuel].

24

When Joseph woke up from sleep, he did as the celestial-messenger of the Self-existent had commanded him. He married Mary,

25

but did not have intimate relations with her until she gave birth to a Son whom he named Jesus.
